"I really enjoyed the interaction that the instructor had with the class. He did a great job of asking the audience to participate, which I felt kept us focused and helped us learn more. The training staff was great, and my expectations were fully met."

"The portion of the program that I enjoyed the most was getting to understand my negotiation style. In addition, learning what to expect from other personality styles and how to deal with them will be extremely helpful in future negotiations. Our instructor was excellent, he was extremely personable and full of energy."

Over the past century, labor negotiations have become more commonplace, often covered by media outlets and splashed across local and national newspaper pages. Ever since Upton Sinclair’s muckraking novel, The Jungle, brought to light labor concerns in the meatpacking industry of the early 1900s, labor and management have struggled to come to terms when issues that separated each side led to heated negotiations. Each side has valid concerns and the ability to negotiate effectively is crucial to avert strikes and other actions that can cripple or permanently destroy an enterprise. Both labor unions and corporations have to take into account multiple interests and issues when conflict arises. Ultimately, deadlocks and failures to come to a negotiated agreement hurt all sides involved and the end result is that neither party wins – both sides lose. Our Labor Negotiation Skills workshop is a one-day interactive seminar designed to teach both sides how to approach the negotiations table in a rational and principled manner that leads to mutually beneficial outcomes.

The Labor Negotiation Skills training program provides labor and corporate participants with the ability to put into practice principled negotiations skills via proven methodologies, practice and the most effective negotiation training concepts in the industry. Built upon the theory of principled negotiations, a concept that seeks to build a positive and rewarding outcome for both labor and management, our negotiation skills program teaches you how to focus on common interests when negotiating in nearly any labor situation. This course takes into account the particular needs of both labor unions and corporate interests and puts them at the forefront of all discussions. A highly interactive negotiations class, Labor Negotiation Skills makes use of role plays, group discussions, exercises and negotiation modules to reinforce learning and skills transfer. An emphasis is placed on every stage of negotiations – from the planning phases of a labor-related discussion to the resolution of grievances and negotiations. Our training course empowers all sides with the ability to handle any negotiation situation, regardless of size or complexity. Activities are designed to ensure skills usage and transfer. As a result of attending this course, both labor unions and corporations will be able to work together to build agreements while protecting the best interests of their constituencies.

Labor Negotiation Skills participants will learn to:

  • Understand the concerns of each side during labor negotiations
