Negotiation and Communication Skills Program
(Half-Day)

Anyone who has been involved in negotiations for any period of time can tell you that one of the most critical skills a professional can develop, particularly via negotiation programs, is the ability to communicate effectively during negotiations. Unfortunately, many people do not have a solid awareness of their personal communication style. This is especially true in relation to communications during a negotiation. Even those who understand their communication strengths and shortfalls are sometimes not aware how to flex their style in order to negotiate more effectively with internal partners and external clients and vendors. Our Negotiation and Communication Skills Program is a highly interactive half-day training program designed to teach participants how to use proven skills to communicate more effectively during any negotiation.

The premise of this half-day program is to teach the skills required to utilize effective communications so as to improve discussions, influence negotiation parties and reach optimum negotiation outcomes. Participants in this program initially spend time assessing their personal communication styles and understanding what makes them unique. Afterwards, an exhaustive study of various communication styles will help participants understand how to flex their personal style so as to build chemistry and establish rapport with coworkers, customers, vendors and business partners. Additional time is spent discussing how communication is sometimes abused by dishonest parties seeking to gain an unfair advantage during negotiation sessions. Program participants will take part in self-assessments, lectures, role plays, exercises and other activities to shape and reinforce the learning process. Each program module is designed to increase skills transfer of those who must negotiate on an ad-hoc or regular basis.

Negotiation and Communication Skills Program participants will utilize skills to:

  • Plan to communicate more effectively during simple or complex negotiations
  • Handle nearly any negotiation, regardless of situation or size
  • Become more effective when handling negotiations in person or on the telephone
  • Understand the needs of different negotiating types
  • Establish rapport and build chemistry via communication skills
  • Focus on interests and issues that lead to common agreement
  • Adjust their negotiations approach based on verbal cues and behavior
  • Identify areas of concern and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Minimize conflict and roadblocks by utilizing principled negotiation program skills
  • Recognize and disarm dishonest negotiations tactics
  • Handle negotiations in an ethical manner that strengthens relationships
